January update – Time to get your workout on!

January is the time where we put our hard thought out New Years Resolutions into motion! Our thoughts into actions so to speak! It’s time to look at your bullet list for the year and take the next step. One of mine was losing weight and now that 2018 has started it’s time to begin working towards that goal, or at least start planning how i’m going to accomplish that goal.
Here’s what I’ve been thinking:

Keto diet:

Sean and I decided that we would try out a ketogenic diet this time around! A Keto diet is a low carb high fat diet designed to get your body into a state of ketosis. The end goal of a properly maintained keto diet is to force your body into a “metabolic” state by making the body burn fat as well as your fat storages instead of carbs for energy. It’s new, it’s exciting and I hope I can stick with it!

Fitbit:

A Fitbit is a handy little watch that tracks your weight loss progress. I used one the last time I took up my weight loss goal and it was incredibly helpful! It helped me feel motivated to stay on track and even though counting calories is tedious, it really does help and this little device made it so much easier. That’s why i’m thinking I should find it, dust it off and use it!

Running:

I’ve always liked running. It’s monotonous sure, but it’s the one thing I have found that can help me shut off my brain completely. Now that Christmas has passed,  I am now equipped with a brand new pair of running shoes! Now nothing stands in my way!
I’ve never had very impressive results (i’m incredibly ordinary when it comes to running) but i’m hoping that this year I can get to a point where I can run 5 kilometers in 30 minutes. Plus I feel that adding more cardio is always a good idea if you are looking to lose weight!

P90X3 program:

Last time I had a regular workout routine I was following the P90X3 workout program by Tony Horton at BEACHBODY and it was great! Only 30 minutes a day with intense exercises that changed weekly. It was awesome and i loved the way it mixed a bunch of different exercises up while also giving you suggestions for a meal plan as well as dietary suggestions etc. The best part was that it was only those 30 minutes and then you where free for the rest of the day! It was a great way for me to get regular exercise in that i could actually muster up the energy to get done, so i want to continue with that this year.

Regular exercise hours/Scheduling:

I’ve been thinking I need to put my exercise hours in the morning because I am the kind of person who doesn’t necessarily like to exercise when first starting out (I mean who does). That’s why I need to make it something that I do first thing in the morning. Then, once it’s done, it’s out of my way and I can focus on other things. Plus it’ll help me get up earlier in order to get it done!

Push myself to do better:

I need to keep this schedule up once it has become a habit even on travels! That was my downfall last year and I don’t want that to happen again. I was so much happier and healthier last year when I was exercising regularly and eating better and I want to keep that up in 2018!

I am going to make sure I’m 100% healthy again before I throw myself at this, though once that’s cleared I’m gonna go full force at this fool proof fitness plan! I hope you guys have started working on your resolutions too! Please tell me about them in the comments I would love to read them! Also I’m sorry about there not being photos on this post, I just wanted to make a quick update post and I also didn’t know what to photograph and I didn’t want to take any pictures of ME exercising because i would just be looking exhausted, sweaty and possibly falling off the treadmill trying to strike “an interesting pose” lol.

Thanks for reading though! xoxo

  1. Hi Signe! I’m glad that you’re trying to become healther in 2018! One of my resolutions was to get fit and eat healthier too, so this really helped give me the push I need! Thank you!

  2. Hey Signe! I’m really proud of you for doing this, I also want to try to better myself both mentally and physically. Hope you can stick your goals!! Also, I have a question: do you have any tips to de-stress?? A lot of stuff has been stressful lately because of school and stuff and I wanted to know if you had any methods of de-stressing. I hope you have an amazing year!! ❤

  4. Hi Wiishu!
I started out this year kind of rough where my methods were practical but I wasn’t at all in the right mindset. I had set out on various missions for weight loss and unfortunately had many set-backs due to medical things, so I attempted to ‘water-fast’. I did a lot of research and spoke to my family and closest friend about it and although they didn’t think it was the best solution to jump-start my weight-loss and detox my system, they supported me and I am ever-grateful. Needless to say, I put my health first and when I felt ill I stopped right there and then. I knew I had done the right thing by putting my health first but I also knew I was so much stronger and could go so much further and found myself feeling sad and withdrawn the next day. It has taken some time and some self-appreciation to be okay trying something new once again and this time the safer way and just focus on my fitness first. I tell you all of this in hopes that you put your health first and if you meet failure, know that it is fine. Failure cannot be avoided and we push ourselves until we do fail. Failure is not what limits us, but what challenges us to evolve and overcome the challenges we face and keep pushing ourselves. So please take care of yourself and just enjoy working towards your goals, even if you meet failure!

  5. I feel bad that my resolutions aren’t really…. health related? It feels like they’re not measurable. I really want to be more organized and proactive, especially with this being my last year of high school and with college starting towards the end. I want to do more memorable things and take more risks before I don’t have the opportunity to see my friends every day anymore. On a less depressing note, I really want to find and listen to more music and books and other cultural things because I tend to put myself in loops of watching or doing the same things over and over. I wish you all the best with your resolutions, it’s awesome that you have a solid plan laid out! Good luck, everything can only go up from here! ❤

  6. This makes me so encouraged because I had to start a Candida diet (which is keto with a few extra restrictions), and I really didn’t have a choice if I want my health to improve. I got a Fitbit for Christmas and really is nifty and useful! I downloaded the app that syncs to it and it even tracks my sleep! I hate exercise but seeing other stories and inspiration has really helped get into a daily running routine. So, thank you, Wiishu. You’ve been such an amazing encouragement for me:) Happy 2018!

  7. Wow that sounds like a very well thought out plan. My goals aren’t that complicated, just things that I want to get better at. See I started a bulletin journal this year to help keep me organised and it’s amazing, so I want to continue to use that throughout this year and hopefully next too. I am also planning on improving my ukulele playing so everyday I sit down for 30 minutes and either learn a new song, or work on a more difficult one. It’s been keeping me really happy as I love playing. I hope you have a great day!

  8. Hey, good luck on your fitness journey in 2018. A lil opinion is that in order to lose weight you don’t need to follow diets like keto or Paleo and stuff. Weight loss means calories in< calories out, it's as simple as that. You can easily find your caloric needs by first calculating you tdee (total daily energy expenditures) using an online calculator such as the one on the http://www.iifym.com site. Then you decrease that number by about 500 calories. An that's your cutting calories. Then you can download the myfitnesspal app, enter the values you calculated ( be sure you protein intake is about 0.8 – 1 gr per pound of lean weight), and start logging everything that goes into your mouth. If youre planning on exercising, like you said, be sure to have enabled a feature on the app that adds more calories to your daily needs everytime you log a workout, so your body is fuelled properly. Again, im not an expert, but whenever I wanna cut or bulk I do the same thing by substracting or adding 500 cals. Be sure to stay safe, best of luck to both of you, lots of love.

  9. Hey Signe, I’m currently on the keto diet and have been doing it for about 2 months and I would recommend it anyone! It’s no joke, you lose weight but you only lose fat, not muscle. If you don’t eat a bunch of carbs currently then the keto flu is no issue, just make sure you increase your salt intake (this diet lowers your blood pressure). I suffer from heart palpitations and they’ve essentially disappeared since I’ve started this diet. You also spent less money because it’s quite hard to eat out, and you don’t drink nearly as much (you can, but you have to be careful). If you do it, use a macro tracker app for the first bit to get used to it. You want to do about 75% fat, 20% protein and 5% carbs. It’s really easy to eat too much protein which slows your weight loss and can keep you out of ketosis. I hope this helps! Love you and Sean, hope 2018 is great for you! Love from Calgary, Canada 🍁

  10. Before I got pregnant and had to quit, I was on the keto diet! I lost 30 pounds and it was a really fun way of eating. The keto flu is no joke, though so make sure to have plenty of pickle juice handy. I swear that’s the only thing that helped me get through! Loved this blog!

  12. I love my Fitbit!! It really keeps me moving. Unfortunately I have lost it, and feel lost without it. I am getting a workout cleaning my house looking for it so there’s that. Good luck with your plans blessings and good health to you!

  13. Hey Signe! Glad to hear you’ve started going on your diet and hopefully start feeling stronger and better. One of my goals this year was to have a more positive and it’s working really well, sometimes it’s hard to keep up the good mindset but im happy it’s working better than I thought. 14. My goals for 2018? Mostly be more healthy. 2017 has been a awful year for me, but this year i will try to get better. My main problem was neglecting my mental health. I have a tendency of shutting the world out, laying down and just being left with my thoughts (not in a good way). I can do this for hours on end. This year i would like to devote more of that time to art, studying and piano. Something that i have found to be helpful is having a art blog on Tumblr. Nice comments and the clear progress tracking keep me motivated. Anyway, sorry for over sharing, have a good 2018

  15. Hi! Not to be rude, but is there really much weight left for you to lose? Shouldn’t you be talking more about getting healthy and fit rather than losing weight, you seem so skinny already, don’t want to see you go down an unhealthy way :s

  16. Good luck to you Signe! 🙂 I honestly don’t know what I want for my New Years resolutions, I guess mine are typical 17yr old goals haha!
    – learn to drive
    – graduate high school
    – get a new job
    – save up for pax to possibly get the chance to meet my internet friends, you, and Seán
And my biggest goal, be happy! I tend to let my depression and anxiety control my life which is a terrible habit to have. I want to fully have control over my thoughts and emotions this year.
    Here’s to 2018!! 😀

  17. Good luck! Last year i went to the gym for a month straight, joking every single day and it felt amazing, but unfortunately, i went on a trip for a month and was unable to go workout. Then school started and i got off track. But it’s the New Year and i am gonna try to go to the gym today and focus on my health and reach my goal weight. I know you’ll be able to reach your goal weight if you work hard! But don’t push your self too much. Make sure you’re not pushing your limit.

    1. It’s exciting to follow along with your progress. Please post frequent updates. My husband and I are doing the 5-Day diet together and I too am taking up some jogging – not running. lol I really want to get into better hiking shape for summer and fall.

One day, I’d like to attempt the Keto diet. I know this goes really well with Intermittent Fasting, which I do every day. I do the 18 hour fast/ 6 hour eating window protocol.

      Good luck!

  19. My resolution is to stay more positive because last year was really hard for me and there were days when all I did was stay in bed and cry. So I’ll be more positive and I’m trying to bring more from myself to give others and help them. Also I’d love to be more honest and try to feel better around people.
My motivation is still a thing from the New Year and I’m surprised! Usually it would end by the next day.
Thank to You and Sean I decided to really take care of my problems and don’t just ignore them. Thank You two for always being so nice and sweet. Love You two 💖💚🤘

  20. Oh, good luck! I know you can do it!

Some of my resolutions are to read more and play more games! These are things I really enjoy but put off because I never feel like I have enough time. I really want to work hard on taking care of myself and staying on top of my work at school so that I’m not as stressed this year. I made a list of things I want to accomplish this year and I’ve felt a really strong drive to get them done!

    Let’s make 2018 our year!

  21. I’m glad that you and Sean are getting onto that fitness train! I really do hope this comes to fruition. I’m gonna work on getting fit too! Where I live my school lets us choose 3-4 classes. 3 if you want an off period (just like it sounds no class just hanging out with friends and doing homework) 4 if you don’t. My elective every other day is swimming so I’m looking forward to it. Wish me luck! 😛

  22. I’ve always enjoyed exercise and pilates and such – though I’m first to admit that I am certainly no expert. Recently, I purchased ankle/wrist-weights to improve my flexibility and upper body strength. I personally have physical milestones to reach this year: achieve a middle split, beef up my noodle arms, have better balance, and boost my metabolism. With a good music playlist, I think it’s achievable.

Do you have any physical milestones to achieve, like pulling something off? I enjoyed this post! Short and sweet! ^^

  23. I just started Keto as well, although watching Sean demolish that burger and chips yesterday on the Charity stream made me crave carbs! You’ll need to tell him the burger is fine, but no more buns or chips. Going to get the diet under control and then back to the gym as well.

  24. I got a fitbit for Christmas, so my main goals are to stay hydrated and be more active, in addition to getting mentally healthy. I need to get back in counseling so I can do everything I need to do in order to graduate college this year! We can do this! #PMA

  25. Good luck Signe! With confidence and dedication nothing can stand in your way. 2018 is your year! The keto diet actually sounds super interesting and I’m thinking of looking into it myself, how did you discover it? Fitbits are nifty devices that are super helpful as well and have been updated tremendously since I last used mine haha. All the best with all of your resolutions!

  26. Good on you for making a plan! I loved reading this, it kind of reinforced my own plans for this year! I’ve taken up daily working out again as well as started doing yoga. I also picked up my meditation habit again. I want to get a good daily routine going so that I feel energized and don’t burn out during university like I have been doing in the past.
I’m also looking to finally go into therapy this year, as I desperately need to. Hopefully I can get that ball rolling soon!
I’m super excited and pumped for 2018!

My New Year Resolution is to draw more, I lacked so much I it in 2017 and I really want to do it more, not only draw more, but find my style of drawing, I haven’t gotten into Digital Art, but I really want to, I need to expand of diffrent styles so I see which kind fits me, or maybe make my own style who knows 🙂
Have a Happy New Year wiish, Hope all of your new year wishes turn out positively 🙂

  29. My main goal for this year is to get back into therapy for my mental state. I’m tired of my depression and anxiety stopping me from doing what I want to do and stopping me from being a ‘normal’ teenager.
I also want to just try new things this year, I’m not the type to experiment due to anxiety but I think it will be fun to get out of my comfort zone a little this year. I also hope you can get your resolution completed! Work out is awesome and I used to do it as well, you can even try some yoga which I found more fun than sit ups and bars.

    1. I love yoga! It’s actually part of the P90X3 program and i can’t wait to get back to it! It’s awesome that you’ve decided to stand up for yourself (against yourself so to speak) like that. I wish you the best of luck going forward!

    1. I have the same problem but having done it last year i can say with confidence that it’s all about building a routine/habit and sticking with it! Getting over those first few weeks with regular exercise makes all the difference! good luck!!
