What I did in February – College, Assignments and Class Trips

Hey gang, it’s been a little while! February has come and gone and I am now well on my way to becoming a full-time student. At the beginning of the month, I started college and the first couple of weeks have been much busier than I initially anticipated. I’ve ended up having to focus all of my time on school and especially on getting back in the routine of studying full-time again. Needless to say, I haven’t had much time to write posts and record videos. Hell, even my Instagram has come to a standstill and I really want to apologize for that. However, right now, I am currently sitting on a bus on my way to Hamburg on a class trip so I thought I would utilize this time to write a handy little update post, about what has actually been going on with me during these first few months of 2019.

The first week was an introduction week. Basically, we were shown around the campus, introduced to the different school IT-systems (I’m convinced the school system HATES me btw. I’ve had so much trouble with it…) and getting to know our classmates. I learned people’s names and managed to somewhat get a read on their personalities. A lot of people had already done some paid photography/videography work or where currently working with it, which was very cool. We even have a couple of people who already have a graphic designer degree but who chose to take this as a “refresher” course of sorts. It’s been nice to have people around who have experience in both the work field but also the programs we’ll be working with.

After the introduction week, the “real” course began and it was, to put it mildly, a complete 180 change. Coming from the slow, laid back introduction to the real deal, happened so fast and suddenly I found myself being introduced to 5 different Adobe programs and having a project in each and every single one of them. It was tough!
The projects themselves were alright. It’s not like they were particularly difficult but they were time-consuming. The first two were animation projects, made with Adobe Animate CC and I can safely say that I now have a newfound respect for animators! That stuff is hard! And I didn’t even have to do anything that difficult!

The next couple of assignments focused on a program called Adobe XD. It’s software primarily used for building wireframes and mockups. Wireframes being the blueprint of a website/app and mockups being the last rendition of your visual design (but with no actual programming behind it. Think of it more as something purely visual, to show a client what the finished product is going to look like). This one messed me up because I kept mixing up the assignments! Keep in mind we had two assignments, in the same program, due on the same date but one was a group project with an individual hand-in and the other was purely individual. It was tricky but I managed to finish them both and hand them in on time (not without trouble, mind you. I told you, the IT-systems HATE me…)

Now I also mentioned I was on a bus, right? Well, that’s because of our class trip! We’re headed to Hamburg in Germany to see some things, write some assignments and most importantly, to shake the whole class together and make some friends! It’s a little weird having it almost a month into the semester but better late than never! I, for one, am really looking forward to this trip. I love travelling, especially with friends, so I’m excited to see what we end up doing once we arrive!

I also hope you’re all doing well! Let me know what you’ve been up to yourselves and if you have any suggestions for the blog or for YouTube, feel free to leave a comment here on the blog! I read everything that goes on the blog. It has sort of become my little “safe-space” so I’ll try to keep it updated to the best of my ability from here on out.

Love you guys and I’m so thankful that so many of you are still here, despite the lack of content. It means the world to me that you care and I promise that I will do my best to give you the content you deserve when I have the time to string it together because you have all given me so much and it’s the least I can do in return.

  1. Glad school is going well for you Signe! I myself have been having a difficult time in college. I’m not happy in my program and been feeling lost and confused with what the hell I actually want. Starting to figure it out though. I’m glad you’re enjoying your school experience, despite all the work you had to do. Keep going! Can’t wait to see your progress in the future 🙂

  2. You’ve been kicking some serious butt! School is so exhausting, though I do love learning so I’ve been polishing up on different interests online. I have been writing more again and have started to crawl out of the depths of depression.

Hamburg must be beautiful! I would love to see Europe some day (I’m in New York and have yet to leave even the east coast). I am really excited for this spring and summer not for any beach days, though that will be fun, but for the new possibilities!! I’ve met so many wonderful people in the past year and a half and my inspiration is flowing again, though sometimes it feels like someone’s stepping on the hose and blocking it all.

My first enamel pins that I’ve helped design just came in and the next batch I have with another artist in collaboration with are soon to be here too!! Those even have my logo on it and it’s so friggin exciting. I’m cautiously optimistic for the future, but definitely excited to see what happens.

    1. That sounds awesome! Glad things are looking up for you and that you are moving through life with a more positive outlook on things!
I have to admit that I’m looking forward to summer for the same reason haha, so we have that in common!

Good luck with it all! I hope it all keeps on running smootly for you!

      1. Hehe thanks a bunch! Seasonal depression just kicked my butt so hard 😂.

The hardest thing I’ve realized about mental health is that it’s not a thing that will just get better and then be better forever, it’s something that has to be cared for daily to keep up maintenance. I hope you have a great start of the new week! 💗

  3. Your course sounds super interesting, hope you are managing ok with the work load. I’d love to learn these skills, I bet they’d be so beneficial to have 😀 Looking forward to hearing more about what you get up to 😀 Hope you had a great time in Hamburg for your class trip!

  4. It’s good to hear you’re doing well! Good luck on your course and have fun!!

I’m applying for a new college course next year so these days I’m trying to prep my portfolio ready for the interviews. I have a lot of sewing to do.

  5. Does the person you nicked that tagline from know you did it? Did you credit her? I don’t think she’s made aware and that’s not very cool.

  6. So glad to hear (well read actually) from you again, Signe! I’m really happy you are enjoying studying again! This second semester is absolutely kicking my ass at the moment haha, there is so much work to do and such little motivation to find… Thankfully, university has granted me lovely friends who actually DO something in group projects, unlike my friends from secondary school, so it helps that I don’t have to do everything myself the whole time 🙂 I’m making to do-lists again to hopefully get that motivation back up though! Anyway, have a good time over there and I wish you the best of luck with the rest of the semester!

    1. I know how you feel! It’s amazing to work in groups now that I don’t have to do all the work anymore haha. Still I hope you find the motivation soon! College can be a lot of fun once you get a good hang of how it all works. Good luck to you too and thank you!

  7. Glad you’re doing well!! I’ve been doing okay.
Wow, your class went to Germany! My college classes don’t take trips like that and I wish they did (I live in America). The only class “trips” I went on were to a photography studio and to a really nice apartment complex that has small art galleries. It’s better than nothing, but I still would have loved to so somewhere out of state for a class trip.
I also love to travel and I’m hoping that when I graduate this spring, I can start training on my own.

  8. This sounds really tough but we all believe that you can do it! You are honestly an inspiration to me with s that you do, so I know that you can do it. Thanks for the great post and hope college continues to get better! ❤️

  9. I’m happy to hear everything’s going well!
I’m proud of you for going back to school and doing all of this because not everyone would be able to cope with the stress of education and assignments again (like me). Wishing you all the best and I hope the IT system starts to be kind to you eventually 💜

  10. Glad to hear you’re doing well, Signe! It’s so interesting to hear about the assignments you’re doing since I’m doing similar things at college for my graphic design program. We’ve been using Adobe XD a ton in my web design course for wireframing app designs, and it’s been pretty fun! I haven’t used Adobe Animate yet, but I’m doing a stop motion word animation for my typography course so I get how time consuming it can be haha. Best of luck with your classes!! 🙂

    1. We actually had to do stop motion as well! Man, It’s really cool to hear that some of you guys are doing similar things. It feels like we’re all going through it together haha.
      Good luck with your projects!

  11. Wow!! That sounds like a lot to learn in not a lot of time, but I’m glad that you’re liking it so far. I missed seeing you, especially on Youtube, but it’s completely understandable. I’d like to know more about what you’re studying, that could be a video idea. Please remember to take a moment to relax, college can be stressful =)

  12. Nice to see another post, Signe! I’m a junior in college and I’ve got to say it’s pretty fun!! I’m studying multi-media design and were using the same programs as you are. I can agree that sone of the programs are confusing but once you get to know how to use them it’s pretty easy! Were heading to Hamburg on March 29th (which is my birthday, yay!), so let me know how it is there!!!😁

  13. That’s awesome you’ve been having such a fun time thus far, albeit busy! Gosh, I only have to deal with Adobe Acrobat at my job and I barely know the basics, I can’t imagine having projects on five different programs. And ahh Germany sounds so cool! Although I’m not going anywhere all that exciting, Spring Break is next week so I’ll get to relax at home, which will be much appreciated haha.
Good luck with making friends! I’m always intimidated to get to know new people, but I’ve found it’s a bit easier to through a class since you already know you have shared interests. Fingers crossed some of them have other interests you guys can bond over.
As always, I enjoyed reading the blog! Have a good week!

  14. I’m so glad you’re doing well in university! I can’t imagine how tough it was to transition. The courses you’re taking sound super interesting. I’m in the second term of my first year of college and I totally get the whole relaxed welcome week sort of thing and then just being thrown into classes! It feels like so much all at once. It took me a while to make friends and get the hang of classes since my school does the quarter system instead of the semester system, so everything feels super whirlwind and speedy all the time! I’m so glad you’ve found something that you’re hopefully passionate about and I can’t wait to go along with you on your journey and see where it takes you!!

  15. Missed you, Signe! It’s awesome to hear you’re doing well and that you’re getting the hang of school again. Make sure to take study breaks often! From one college student to another, they’re really important. I hope you’re having lots of fun and finding your passions!

As for the blog and YouTube, I’d love to hear about your school adventures! I’d also love to hear about/see more of Denmark. But, of course, any content from you is awesome content!

    Can’t wait for what’s next!

  16. This sounds so much better than college in America. They don’t really care if you make friends and “class trips” are nonexistent. Though I can relate with the nonstop work! I hope it keeps well for you! Looking forward to the next update already cx

    1. So glad to hear you’re doing well. And lucky you; when I started the university in September, it was all fast paced right from the get-go. But I actually have to thank you; you’re the one who inspired me to be an illustrator and take art/design classes. We’re all so proud of you and can’t wait to hear more of your story, keep us posted and good luck with classes 😉

  18. So glad to here that you’re doing well, Signe! I personally have been applying to colleges and working hard on graduating high school— only 3 months left!! I also recently found a love interest and they have made me super happy recently. He lives about 2 hours from me but we plan to meet and hang out soon! I’ve never “really” been in love before but it honestly feels really nice.

I hope you have a fantastic month of March with lots of good things to come your way ❤️

  20. I’ve almost completed my first animations class and I too have found high levels of respect for animators (the hard way haha). But I also love it and can’t wait to continue pursuing it. I’m glad to hear you’re doing well! So glad you’re back to the blog!

    1. Yeah, animators are nuts! But in a good way haha!
Their work is so hard and tedious but what they make out of it is so incredibly impressive! Definitely have new found respect!
Good luck with the rest of your classes!

  21. I’m so happy that you are having fun and I really hope everything works out for you! Hopefully you won’t feel anxious about the hectic schedule and remember to take breaks!!We care about you and we want you to be in the best mentality!
I don’t feel mentally good lately but I’m slowly getting out of the dark times I am right now,one step every day!
I’ve started working out again and my health will hopefully get better because starving wasn’t good at all and I feel ashamed to say that I was starving myself.
School is tough but I’m working my way through it!

Anyways wish you the best and lots of kisses 🙂

    1. I’m sorry to hear that but proud that you’re working through it and have realized that it wasn’t good for you! I’m sure you’ll get where you want to be and remember that there are bright times ahead of you. You just have to get to them. 🙂

  22. I totally understand how you feel, I do a similar kind of collage. we also work with adobe and in the first semester everything is just like ” do this in that program” and you just need to figure it out with the help of YouTube. But once I got the hang of it and passed the beginner stage, it’s really fun.

So keep trying, you learn from mistakes ❤

  23. Did you start college late? I wanna take a break year or two to sort myself out before I start or get the extra credits I need. Is it worth it or weird…?? 💞💞 also really love your posts⭐️⭐️⭐️

    1. I did start late, yeah!
For me personally, it was definitely worth it. I’m more mature now and much more focused but just think about what you want. No need to rush through things. If you’re not ready, you’re not ready.
      Good luck!

  24. Glad to hear that you’re doing well Signe! I can definitely relate to being busy with school haha. I myself am taking 3 dual credit classes in high school (English, Pre-Calculus, and Economics), along with a regular Physics class online. It’s pretty tough figuring out how to tackle all the work! Luckily I’m almost completely done with Physics, I have my 2nd Pre-Cal test tomorrow (been studying all day and I am brain-dead haha), and this weekend I’m going to be starting on an English paper over the environmental themes within Princess Mononoke (fun!). After all that, I just have a few more months until summer break, and then it’s off to senior year! Your work-load sounds incredibly stressful too, especially with those tricky programs oof. I wish you the best of luck! As for your content, I’ve always enjoyed looking at your photography and artwork, and I really like the videos where you simply ramble about the subjects you enjoy haha.

  25. Haha looks like we are learning some very similar things in school right now! In one of my university classes, we’ve been coding together some different apps and gosh I totally understand what you mean! It’s a lot of tedious work, but still pretty cool. And you just out out content whenever you can, don’t stress about it! School is your top priority right now 🙂 best of luck!!

  26. I’m glad you’re enjoying college! And my life, since you asked at the end there, has been going really well! Spring is right around the corner here and the weather has been so beautiful so I’ve been trying to leave the house more and enjoy some fresh air! And I don’t know, just getting out more can really improve your mental health, I’ve discovered. I’ve been the happiest I’ve ever been because of it. 🙂

I know I tell you a lot but I constantly feel like I need to remind you how much of an inspiration you’ve been on me. Also don’t worry about the pause in content! We’ll still be here when you get back ❤ Anyway take care!

  28. Happy you’re doing okay with school! I unfortunately can’t return until summer because a financial matter got in the way as well as core classes, but I’m gonna do it!

  29. I’m glad to hear that you’re doing well!! As a university student myself, I completely understand how difficult it is! It was really hard getting to grips with everything at first, but as time went on I was fine. Now I’m in my final year and I’ll be finished at the end of May! Scary times. I wish you the best of luck with your school work, and I hope the IT systems stop hating you soon!
